KGWO – Celebrating our 20th Year!
2017 is KGWO’s 20th Anniversary! From humble beginnings as an adult starter band, it has developed into a 70 piece advanced Wind orchestra. Each year we stage three very well attended concerts that showcase the depth of talent this community orchestra has developed over the years. We have enjoyed some wonderful collaborations with many up and coming young musicians like soprano Julie Goodwin and concert pianist Alex Ranier. Other special guest artists include visual artists such as Donna Gibb and Nicole Murray, choirs such as Southern Cross Voices and Chordiality, ensembles such as Mandolins of Brisbane and Cloudstreet, as well as dance groups such as Helensvale Dancesport, Queensland National Ballet School and Watkins Academy of Irish Dance.
For our 20th Anniversary concert at the end of this year we will be having a “best of” retrospective of the favourite works performed by KGWO over the last 20 years! More details will be announced during the concert.
Join us for a walk down memory lane with a look back in time at all our past concerts!
We are a community-based orchestra of more than 70 musicians. Our ages, professions, and cultural backgrounds vary, but what unites us is a joy of rehearsing and performing a wide range of music for the people of Brisbane and our city’s many visitors. Each of our concerts presents a selection of works based around a theme.
The KGWO sound - brass, woodwind and percussion - is ideal for a variety of musical styles. We perform serious symphonic repertoire, light classical works, contemporary works, and popular pieces. Our goal is to present enjoyable, memorable concerts where the quality of performance, the breadth of music, and the affordability keeps audiences coming back. Our concerts are enjoyed by people of all ages.
Since 1997, KGWO has been the talk of the town thanks to its wide range of quality, entertaining concerts. As a Community Orchestra, we believe in engaging with the community and embracing the talents of our local aspiring artists. Our goal is to offer audiences a diverse variety of dazzling concerts at very affordable prices. Expect to be entertained!
